BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao Friday highly praised the achievement of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) over the past decade, ahead of the 10th anniversary of the region's return to the motherland.     Hu, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said Macao was "embracing a bright future" thanks to the mainland's support and Macao compatriots' hard work. Hu made the remarks while attending an exhibition in Beijing marking Macao's achievements in the past 10 years.     "Macao has undergone an extraordinary development over the past decade," he said, adding under the support of the central government and the Chinese mainland, the SAR government fully implemented the policies of "one country, two systems", "Macao people governing Macao" with a high degree of autonomy and the Basic Law. Under the mechanism, Hong Kong and Macao retained their capitalist systems after returning to the motherland.     Hu said the SAR government, together with Macao residents, overcame various difficulties and challenges to advance economic development, ensure social stability and improve people's livelihood.     He encouraged Macao compatriots and the SAR government to strive for the region's better prospect.     Dec. 20 will mark the 10th anniversary of Macao's return.     Top legislator Wu Bangguo, Premier Wen Jiabao, top political advisor Jia Qinglin, and other senior leaders Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang, all Standing Committee members of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee, visited the exhibition.     On Friday morning, Vice President Xi attended the opening ceremony and unveiled the exhibition.     At the ceremony, Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of Macao SAR, thanked the central government for its support to the SAR since Macao's return in 1999 from Portuguese rule.     This exhibition of photos, texts and other items is open to the public from Saturday to Jan. 13 next year.

SANTIAGO, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- China is a dynamo of the world economy and is playing a central role in helping a global economic recovery, said Alicia Barcena, executive secretary of the Economic Commission for the Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), on Friday.     "China is part of the world trade of wheat, rice, soya, sugar and others, playing a very important role in the increase of those product exports. The same happens in the case of the minerals and oil," Barcena told Xinhua in an interview.     He said China is one of the most important market for Latin American and the Caribbean products.     "China is being a blessing for the exports of raw materials from Latin America and the Caribbean. But it is also a great exporter (to the region). So, it competes with the countries of this region, mainly with Mexico and the Central American nations," said Barcena.     Trade between China and Latin America has grown tremendously, he noted.     He said Mexico, for example, is beginning to see China as a partner rather than a competitor.     Mexico has given priority to trade relations with China. As a result, the Asian country is now the fifth largest overseas market for Mexican products.     Meanwhile, South America has also improved ties with China.     "All producers see the opportunity of reaching the Chinese market," said Barcena.

SHANGHAI, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- President Barack Obama said here on Monday the United States would continue to fully support the one-China policy, and would be very pleased to see the improving cross-strait relationship.    "I have been clear in the past the United States supports a one-China policy. BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's auto sales and output both exceeded 12 million units in the first 11 months, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) announced Monday.     The CAAM forecast sales and output for the whole year would both exceed 13 million units.     In November alone, sales reached more than 1.35 million units, according to preliminary statistics. Detailed figures are expected to be released on Tuesday.     The country's largest auto maker, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, sold about 2.44 million auto units in the first 11 months, up 54 percent year on year, while Sino-U.S. joint venture company Shanghai GM sold 627,495 units, up 50.5 percent.

BEIJING, Jan. 4 -- China International Capital Corp (CICC) topped the rankings of the underwriters of China's initial public offerings (IPOs) in 2009, making an estimated 1.23 billion yuan from fees, Bloomberg data showed.     The earning of the country's largest investment bank was boosted by underwriting the China State Construction Engineering Corp's 50.1 billion yuan IPO, the world's second-largest in 2009.
