GUANGZHOU, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- China is to maintain basic stability and continuity in the economic policies and RMB exchange rate to ensure a foreseeable prospect for its businesses.     Minister of Commerce Chen Deming made the remarks Sunday at the Canton Fair, an important barometer of China's foreign trade, in Guangzhou City, capital of southern Guangdong Province.     In the following months, China would maintain stability of the macro-economic policies, stick to the proactive fiscal policy and moderately easy monetary policy, Chen said.     Meanwhile, the RMB exchange rate should also maintain relatively stable so that domestic manufacturers and exporters can better predict and adjust to the market, Chen added.     Chen said the number of participants to the fair and the trade volume showed China's foreign trade was recovering, but uncertainties remained.     Chen urged Chinese enterprises to enhance their competitiveness with better quality and lower cost by technological upgrading and restructuring. "Next year, our focus will be on the quality of export products," he said.     "Enhancing competitiveness with better product quality and brand-building is also an effective way of avoiding trade protectionism," Chen added.     In the previous three quarters this year, 19 countries and regions have launched 88 trade remedy investigations against Chinese goods, totaling 10.2 billion U.S. dollars.     "In addition to the recovering export, China's import is also on the rise, contributing significantly to the recovery of the world economy," Chen said.

BEIJING, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin has called for adequate preparation for next year's annual session of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).     A meeting of the CPPCC National Committee's chairperson and vice chairpersons decided Saturday to open the annual full session of the top political advisory body on March 3 next year.     Jia, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said the session, together with the annual full meeting of the National People's Congress, is of great significance in deepening reform, tackling the global financial crisis, advancing social and economic development, and ensuring stability next year.     Zhao Qizheng, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, was appointed the spokesman for the annual session in March. BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- China should take more forward looking and preemptive measures to fight inflation expectations following this year's credit boom and runaway property prices, said a report released by a leading Chinese bank.     Bank loans should be extended at a more reasonable pace with improved structures next year and policy fine-tuning is necessary, the Bank of Communications has said in a report released by its financial research center.     The government should maintain the continuity and stability of its monetary policy and meanwhile be more targeted and flexible, it said.     The report noted an over brisk equity and property market are always prelude of inflation. Money flow should be regulated to prevent asset bubbles.     It also suggested government increase supply of land resources and affordable housing and crack down on land enclosure to curb skyrocketing property prices which gained the most in 14 months in November.     CPI, the main gauge of inflation, jumped 0.6 percent in November from a year ago, the first monthly growth since January, because of lower statistical bases and rising food prices.     The producer price index (PPI), a major measure of inflation at the wholesale level, declined 2.1 percent in November from a year earlier.     The report expected PPI to end monthly drop in December, and the annual CPI decline to narrow to 0.8 percent.     Hyperinflation is unlikely and CPI is predicted to rise four percent next year, it said.

Nathan, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Senior Minister Gok Chok Tong and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, and exchanged profound views with them on China-Singapore relations, on international and regional issues of common concern, and reached consensus on a number of issues.     President Hu put forward a six-point proposal for deepening the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. A comprehensive world economic recovery still faces many uncertainties and destabilizing factors, the president said.     In addition, the Doha Round negotiations have been fraught with difficulties and twists and turns, and global issues have become more pronounced. These are all daunting challenges to the full recovery and long-term growth of the world economy, including in the Asia-Pacific region, he said.     At this critical juncture, "we should all the more get united, follow the principle of openness, cooperation and mutual benefit, strengthen coordination and work together to secure the momentum of world economic recovery and promote balanced and orderly economic growth," said the Chinese president.     SUPPORT FOR SOUND DEVELOPMENT OF MULTILATERAL TRADING SYSTEM     Hu expounded on China's position on opposing trade protectionism and supporting the multilateral trading system.     He said the APEC member economies should advance the World Trade Organization's Doha Round negotiations on the basis of locking in the existing achievements and respecting the Doha mandate.     "We are ready to speed up the settlement of the remaining issues and work for comprehensive and balanced outcomes at the negotiations at an early date in order to achieve the goals of the development round," Hu said.     "We must be committed to our promises, strongly oppose trade protectionism in all its manifestations, be vigilant against and correct the 'invisible' protectionism acts in various forms, reduce and eliminate trade barriers, and solve trade disputes through dialogue and coordination, thus creating favorable conditions for full recovery and long-term development of world economy," Hu said.     PROMOTION OF APEC REGIONAL COOPERATION TO MAKE NEW ACHIEVEMENTS     In his address at the two-day APEC Economic Leaders Meeting, President Hu called on the APEC to reform and improve itself to raise the efficiency of cooperation so as to keep advancing with the changing times.     Also, the APEC should focus more on its unique strengths, continue to promote trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, scale up input and promote even greater achievements in economic and technical cooperation, and continue to increase its institutional dynamism through reform and innovation, Hu said.     To promote APEC economic and technical cooperation, he said, the Chinese government will allocate 10 million U.S. dollars for the establishment of the China-APEC Cooperation Fund to encourage and support participation by relevant Chinese departments and businesses in APEC economic and technical cooperation.     The Chinese president also called on all parties to take an active part in the Fifth APEC Human Resources Development Ministerial Meeting in 2010 and continuously support and take part in activities of the Asia-Pacific Network on Forest Rehabilitation and Sustainable Management. His proposal won high appraisal and was warmly applauded by the paticipating leaders.     PROMOTION OF SOLUTION OF GLOBAL ISSUES TO MAKE NEW PROGRESS     The international community is facing severe challenges of climate change, which concerns human survival and development, Hu said.     The international community has actively taken steps to tackle climate change despite the existence of some difficulties in the negotiation process, he said, adding that the world should be full of confidence, redouble efforts, and strive to overcome difficulties in this regard to achieve positive results.     Hu said the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Kyoto Protocol have laid the legal foundation for the international community to collaborate on addressing climate change and the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities has already become a universally accepted and basic principle for tackling climate change.     Also, the "Bali Roadmap" has made clear the requirements and orientation of international cooperation on climate change, he added.     All parties concerned should abide by the above principle and requirements, fully demonstrate their political will, turn their political will into real action to push forward the process of relevant talks and work to realize the goal of strengthening the implementation of the UNFCCC in a comprehensive and sustainable way, the Chinese president said.     In recent years, international talks on implementing the "Bali Roadmap" had made progress and reached consensus on a number of aspects, he said, calling on the international community to build on the consensus and progress and work to reach further consensus, and push for a positive outcome of the Copenhagen climate talks. BEIJING, Dec. 1 -- Premier Wen Jiabao Monday rejected "unfair" calls from European countries for faster reform of China's currency policies, despite lobbying from EU financial chiefs at the weekend."Some countries demand the yuan's appreciation while practicing various trade protectionism against China. It's unfair and actually limits China's development," Wen told reporters in Nanjing, Jiangsu province.     European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, were also at the press conference. SEOUL, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping put forward a four-point plan to cement China-South Korea ties when he met South Korean Prime Minister Chung Un Chan here on Thursday.     Xi said China and the South Korea were neighbors and the relationship had been promoted since they established diplomatic ties in 1992. The exchanges of the visits by the two heads of states last year upgraded the relations to strategic and cooperative partnership, which benefited both countries and helped promote regional peace, stability and prosperity.     Xi's proposal to foster the Sino-ROK relationship was:     -- To enhance high-level contact and political trust:     The two countries should also increase exchanges between the governments, parliaments and parties. BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- China should enhance supervision and management of the country's insurance investment, said Li Kemu, vice chairman of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission (CIRC),on Sunday.     "With insurance funds were extended into disparate fields, other than bank deposit, demand for a better supervision and risk control enhanced, said Li at the International Finance Forum held in Beijing.     By the end of September, 3.4 trillion yuan (497.8 billion U.S. dollars) of insurance funds were invested in bonds, mutual funds, and stocks markets. Bonds investment alone accounted for 50.6 percent of the total.     Jiang Dingzhi, China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) Vice Chairman also highlighted the importance of establishing a "all-coverage" financial supervision system.     He suggested the country broaden the financial supervision and management system, which would put the mutual funds, hedge funds, and credit risks appraisal agencies under control.     The new system requires financial institutions to share information, and also cooperate to fill the supervision blanks between different financial markets, he said.
