TOKYO, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with Japanese counterpart Katsuya Okada Thursday evening to discuss bilateral ties as well as international and regional issues of common concern.     Yang said after the new government was formed after the Aug. 30general election of Japan, leaders of the two countries have met under many circumstances to reach important consensus on strengthening strategic mutual beneficial relations. The bilateral ties are embracing fresh opportunities of development and a main purpose of his visit is to discuss with the Japanese side how to further improve the relations.     Yang said the two countries should maintain high-level mutual visits and economic dialogues to deepen cooperation. On issues where divergences still remain, the two countries should seek solutions on the basis of dialogue and consultation.     Yang also suggested Japan and China should work to ensure the peace and stability of East Asia, which includes measures to bring Democratic People's Republic of Korea back to six-party talks and denuclearize the Korean Peninsula. They also discussed issues such as climate change.     Okada also believed Japan and China should increase communication in all areas to enhance the mutually beneficial bilateral ties.     Yang also met with Speaker of the House of Representatives Takahiro Yokomichi and President of the House of Councillors Satsuki Eda on Thursday.     Yang told the Speakers of Lower and Upper Houses that the Shanghai Expo, which is to open next May, is a good channel of friendly communication between China and the rest of the world. China appreciated the assistance provided by the Japanese Diet to the preparation of the Expo and will continue to work with Japan to enhance cultural and personnel communication between the two countries.     The Japanese Speakers of the Diet said China and Japan should not only closely cooperate on bilateral issues, but also work together to settle regional, international and global issues. They emphasized communication between the legislation bodies are important and the Japanese Diet will exert every effort to boost bilateral ties. MANILA, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's top political adviser, Jia Qinglin, and Philippines Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile pledged to boost cooperation between the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the Philippine Senate when they met here Thursday.     Jia, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said China-Philipines ties had witnessed healthy development since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1975.     "China and the Philippines share broad common interests," Jia said, highlighting the enhanced mutual political trust, booming economic and trade ties, frequent humanitarian and cultural exchanges and close coordination on international and regional issues. BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's State Council, the cabinet, said on Monday that the government was discussing measures and policies for the healthy development of the country's real estate sector as house prices in some cities are rising too fast.     Housing prices returned to growth on month-on-month basis since March this year on record lending and the government's favorable policies to stimulate property consumption, including tax breaks and interest rates cuts.     But as the market recovers, housing prices in some cities are soaring too fast, which deserves "great attention", according to an executive meeting of the State Council, chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao.     In order to maintain the "stable" and "healthy" development of the real estate market, China will increase supply of smaller houses at medium-and-low price levels, continue to support residential consumption for improved housing while curbing speculation.     The country will also expand construction of housing projects for low-income families, aiming to help 15.4 million more poor households solve their housing problems by 2012, attendees agreed at the meeting.     Meanwhile, more efforts will be made during the next three to five years to improve living conditions for residents living in shabby houses in some cities, they agreed.     About 10 million households are still living in "shanty towns" in some cities across the country, the meeting revealed.     The central government will offer financial support to renovate those "shanty towns" during the next three to five years, they agreed, but did not say how much funding would be put in place.     Local governments should increase concrete spending in rebuilding these poorly-constructed houses. Social investment is welcomed at these projects, according to the meeting.

BEIJING, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) Wednesday voiced strong opposition against the United States' imposition of anti-subsidy tariffs on Chinese oil well pipes, saying the move was "discriminatory."     The United States made a decision Tuesday to impose duties ranging from 10.36 percent to 15.78 percent on Chinese oil well pipes for alleged unfair subsidies.     "China is strongly opposed to the U.S. move of continuing with its discriminatory measures and arbitrarily raising the anti-subsidy duty rates," said Yao Jian, spokesman of the MOC.     Yao reiterated that the United States should live up to its promise made at the G20 Summit and the consensus reached earlier by leaders of the two countries to fight trade protectionism.     Earlier this month, the U.S. Commerce Department also slapped preliminary anti-dumping tariffs on the pipe up to 99 percent based on the allegation that "Chinese producers/exporters have sold OCTG (oil country tubular goods) in the United States at prices ranging from zero to 99.14 percent less than normal value."     Customs data showed that pipes involved were worth 3.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2008, taking up 46 percent of the total amount of Chinese steel products exported to the United States (6.9 billion dollars).     More than 90 companies were affected, including major steel companies like Baosteel, Tianjin Pipe and Ansteel.
