"The search and rescue operation has been conducted in every village."     The central finance had earmarked tens of billions of yuan for the relief work, Wen said. A 75-billion-yuan (about 10.7 billion U.S. dollars) post-quake reconstruction fund had been set up and more money would be added to it in the next two years, he added.     Before the reporters, Wen expressed sincere thanks to the Chinese worldwide, including compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, as well as the leaders, governments and people of other countries for their concern, sympathy, aid and help.     "Facing such a powerful quake, we welcome international reporters to the quake zone," Wen said. Let's believe no difficulty will stop us once we join hands," he said.     Wu thanked doctors and nurses at the hospital for working day and night to save lives.     He then went to the Chengdu Railway Station, which has become an important distribution center of relief materials from home and abroad.     Wu talked with volunteers working at the station. "Coming from every corner of the country, you are an important force in the quake relief efforts. I hope relief materials could be delivered to thousands of needy people through your hard work."

NEW YORK, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Tuesday that China and the United States are not rivals but partners in cooperation and they should work together to further strengthen bilateral relations.     In a speech delivered at a luncheon co-hosted by the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations and other friendly American organizations, Wen said China-U.S. relations have made significant progress since his first official visit to the United States in 2003.     High-level contacts between the two sides are more frequent than ever before, said Wen, who arrived here Tuesday to attend meetings at the headquarters of the United Nations.     "There are now over 60 dialogue and consultative mechanisms between our two countries. Many of the bodies were never properly interred, and many of the Chinese visiting the memorial on Friday have no graves to visit.     Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province in east China, unveiled a monument ln honor of the thousands of firefighters died on duty since 1949. It is the first such monument in the country.

As of Monday noon, it had taken 69,142 lives, injured 374,065 people, left 17,551 missing and 46.25 million affected.     The meeting was also briefed on the quake relief work in Gansu and Shaanxi, which also suffered great losses.     It directed the two provinces to resume production in the affected areas at the earliest date possible and to rehabilitate the infrastructure.     The central government would provide support in policies, capital and material, the meeting said.
