BEIJING, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- China and Russia would strengthen coordination to better implement the regional cooperation program approved by state leaders last year, officials from the two countries said here on Sunday.The statement was made by Zhang Guobao, head of the National Energy Administration and vice minister of the National Development and Reform Commission, and representatives of the Russian government, at the China-Russian regional cooperation symposium.In September 2009, Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev approved the cooperation program between northeast China and Russia's far east and east Siberian region.Zhang said the cooperation program, covering many fields, included more than 300 key projects in local cooperation and infrastructure construction and transformation.The symposium is the first bilateral meeting aimed at promoting China-Russian regional cooperation since the approval of the cooperation program.

BEIJING, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's Education Ministry on Sunday warned students considering studying overseas against Australian schools run by the GEOS group after more than 40 Chinese students were left stranded with the group's collapse.More than 2,300 students in GEOS group schools across Australia were affected after the college closures. The schools were scattered across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Cairns.GEOS is a Japanese company which owns hundreds of colleges around the world. The GEOS group has run out of money for its Australian colleges,according to Australian media reports.Chinese embassies and consulates in Australia are negotiating with local authorities to settle the issue to safeguard students' legitimate rights.The Education Ministry has drawn up a recommendation list of nearly 15,000 schools in 33 countries worldwide on its website. The recommended schools are relatively trustworthy and reliable.Australia has been a preferred destination for overseas education for Indian and Chinese students.The Australian Bureau of Statistics said the number of Chinese student enrollments was 146,000 by June 2009, up an average annual 16 percent over the past six years.

BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) -- The threat of inflation to China's economy is less worrisome compared with asset bubble, economists said Saturday at the China Development Forum 2010.China's economy is facing a new round of growth in the coming two years, but the risks of inflation and asset bubble remain, said Fan Gang, secretary general of the China Reform Foundation.Compared with inflation, tackling asset bubble is of greater importance because asset bubble, as one of the causes for this round of global financial crisis, is more dangerous, Fan said. BEIJING, March 10 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government will adopt stricter measures to boost energy conservation this year to meet the goal set by an important five-year plan, Xie Zhenhua, vice minister of the National Development and Reform Commission, said Wednesday."It's the last and decisive year for us to realize the goals set by our country's 11th Five-Year Plan," Xie said at a press conference on the sidelines of the annual session of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature."The current energy conservation situation lags far behind the goal set in our plan and our task is still formidable," said Xie, one of China's leading negotiators for climate change talks.Under the 11th Five-Year Plan ending this year, China pledged to cut energy consumption per unit of gross domestic product (GDP) by 20 percent, or four percent each year, but consumption fell by a margin much smaller than the set target during the past four years.The per unit GDP energy consumption fell only 14.38 percent from the 2005 level.Xie said the Chinese government will enact a series of measures this year to boost energy conservation, including the introduction of an accountability mechanism for provincial governments and tight control of projects of high energy consumption and high pollution.China announced in November it aimed to reduce the intensity of carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP in 2020 by 40 to 45 percent compared with 2005 levels.

BEIJING, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Foreign-funded enterprises in China exported 494.4 billion U.S. dollars worth of machinery, electrical and electronic products in 2009.A document posted on the website of the General Administration of Customs (GAC) said the figure made up 69.3 percent of the country's total exports of such products in the past year.Exports of machinery, electrical and electronic products by privately-owned enterprises totalled 106.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2009, down 8.7 percent from a year earlier, according to the document.State-owned enterprises only exported 92.1 billion U.S. dollars worth of machinery, electrical and electronic products, accounting for 12.9 percent of the country's total machinery, electrical and electronic products last year.The GAC document also said the majority of the country's exports of machinery, electrical and electronic products fell into the category of processing and assembling trade.China's exports of machinery, electrical and electronic products in the category of processing and assembling trade totalled 466.4 billion U.S. dollars last year, making up 65.4 percent of the country's total exports of such products.The country exported 713.1 billion U.S. dollars worth of machinery, electrical and electronic products last year, down 13.4 percent year-on-year. The exports contributed 59.3 percent to China's total exports in 2009.The European Union (EU), the United States of America and Hong Kong were the three major destinations for the China mainland's exports of machinery, electrical and electronic products last year.China exported 1.2 trillion U.S. dollars worth of products last year, down 16 percent from 2008, replacing Germany as the world's largest exporter.

SHANGHAI, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese educational institutions blamed for cyber attacks on Google and other firms said Saturday the allegations are unfounded.The New York Times reported Thursday the cyber attacks on Google and other American firms have been traced to Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU) and Lanxiang Vocational School (Lanxiang) in east China's Shandong Province, which the report alleged has ties to the Chinese military."We were shocked and indignant to hear these baseless allegations which may harm the university's reputation," said a SJTU spokesperson.The spokesperson said the allegation linking the attacks with SJTU students or teachers does not hold water."The report of the New York Times was based simply on an IP address. Given the highly developed network technology today, such a report is neither objective nor balanced," the spokesperson said.SJTU will fully cooperate with investigators if Google seeks judicial remedies, the spokesperson said.Li Zixiang, party chief at Lanxiang, another alleged source of the attacks, said, "Investigation in the staff found no trace that the attacks originated from our school."Lanxiang students are still on their winter vacation, Li added.He said Lanxiang has no relations with the military, adding that school authorities do not have military backing.He also dismissed the report's suggestion of involvement of a "specific computer science class" taught by a Ukrainian professor."There is no Ukrainian teacher in the school and we have never employed any foreign staff," Li confirmed."The report was unfounded.
